It might still be autumn, but you wouldn’t know it. A strong southerly front has pushed through, delivering widespread April snow in New Zealand across most ski fields
In fact, this is the second front already – and the bigger of the two.
Canterbury has come out on top so far. Mount Hutt has picked up around half a metre of snow (60cm’s at base and estimates of 80+ at summit), while Roundhill Ski Area is was fully covered. A solid early showing, with many other ski areas receiving some snow as well – see the images below.
The North Island hasn’t missed out either. Both Whakapapa Ski Area and Tūroa Ski Area have seen good snowfall. Even more telling – snow was sitting low on the hills along the Desert Road today, which is unusual for this time of year.
