The Coronet Peak 29 May opening is confirmed for the 2026 winter season, marking one of the earliest planned openings in New Zealand. The focus for opening day will be on the lower mountain, with guaranteed snow coverage on the learner slopes and Snow Play zone.

That means beginners, first-time riders, and anyone keen to get on the snow early will have a chance to start the season ahead of the main winter build-up, with Early Access Passes now available. The full mountain is scheduled to open from 13 June, with 3 Peak Pass holders able to access the slopes from day one.

It’s an early start by New Zealand standards – and a welcome one.

This early opening is supported by new snowmaking technology.

From May 2026, Coronet Peak will introduce a Snow Factory – a system that can produce snow regardless of air temperature. Unlike traditional snow guns, it uses a closed circuit to freeze water into snow without chemical additives, helping ensure coverage on the lower learner slopes and Snow Play zone for opening.

What’s open from 29 May 2026

Early season will focus on a dedicated snow zone on beginner terrain – ideal for first-time skiers and snowboarders, families, and anyone looking to get back into it.

Open daily, 10am–3pm.
