Ski helmets have followed a similar design for years. The Anti Ordinary A2 takes a different approach
At first glance, it looks more like a beanie than a ski helmet. Put it on, and that difference becomes even more obvious. It sits comfortably, feels soft around the head and creates a much more natural, relaxed feel than a traditional helmet. The closed-in feeling of a ski helmet disappears.
We were recently given an A2 to try, and it immediately caught our attention.
A different approach to the Ski Helmet
Anti Ordinary is an Australian company that spent years developing the A2, with the aim of creating a ski and snowboard helmet that people would genuinely enjoy wearing.
Rather than starting with the traditional hard-shell format, the company developed its own patented flexible Dynamic Frame, combined with impact-absorbing materials and a removable fabric outer.
The result is a helmet that looks and feels refreshingly different
That is really what makes the A2 stand out.
Anti Ordinary recognised that many skiers and snowboarders simply preferred the comfort and look of a beanie. Their idea was to create something with that same relaxed feel while still delivering certified ski helmet protection.
Yes, it is a proper ski helmet
The Anti Ordinary A2 is certified to both ASTM F2040 and EN1077 snow-sports helmet standards. Anti Ordinary also reports that the helmet exceeded international impact-testing requirements during development.
So, while it may look like a beanie, underneath is a purpose-built ski and snowboard helmet. That combination of protection, comfort and design is what makes the Anti Ordinary A2 so unique.
What Is It Like to Wear?
This is where the A2 really starts to make sense. The flexible frame wraps naturally around the head, giving it a much more comfortable feel and a sense of freedom.
It sits well and feels secure, while feeling less bulky. Anti Ordinary says the helmet gradually adapts to the wearer over time, creating a more personalised fit.
Our first impression was simply how different it felt the moment it went on. It feels almost like pulling on a substantial beanie.
Our Impression
We like this helmet. It’s now our helmet of choice.
It feels innovative without trying too hard to be different, and the design makes sense almost immediately once you put it on.
The profile, flexible construction and soft finish create a very different wearing experience from the traditional ski helmet. We absolutely love it! But perhaps the biggest compliment we can give the A2 is that after a short time wearing it, you stop thinking about the helmet altogether.
You get that feeling of being on a mountain again! The ski helmet that looks good, feels good and almost makes you forget you are wearing one.
Anti Ordinary supplied Snowfall with an A2 helmet for this feature. Anti Ordinary had no editorial control over this article.
