Happy Valley at Whakapapa is a popular option for people taking their first steps on snow, but what is the experience actually like for beginners? We’d like to hear from people who have learned to ski or snowboard there, as well as parents who have taken children to Happy Valley. How suitable are the beginner slopes, lessons, lifts and facilities? Was hiring equipment straightforward? How easy was the journey, parking and access to the beginner area?

Tell us what worked well, what could have been better and whether you would recommend Happy Valley to another first-time skier or snowboarder.

If you represent Whakapapa, a ski school or another business connected with the mountain, please identify your relationship when contributing.

Our daughter learnt to ski at Happy Valley, so it will always be a special place for our family. Its gentle slopes make it an ideal place for children and adults to learn, practice and gradually build confidence.
