Community Guidelines for the Community
The Snowfall Community is a place to ask practical questions and share firsthand experience about skiing, snowboarding and snow travel in New Zealand. These guidelines apply to questions, answers, replies and suggested links.
Share what you know
- Answer the question being asked and keep your contribution relevant.
- Share your own experience where you can. If conditions, prices, access or services may have changed, say when your information was accurate.
- Be honest about what you know. If you are unsure, make that clear rather than presenting a guess as fact.
- Disagree with an answer respectfully. Different experiences are welcome.
Put safety first
Mountain weather, road access, lift operations and snow conditions can change quickly. Do not present an old report or personal experience as current advice. For decisions on the day, check the ski area’s official updates and the relevant road, weather and avalanche information.
Do not post advice that encourages someone to ignore closures, safety instructions, access restrictions or the directions of mountain staff.
Respect people’s privacy
Do not publish someone else’s contact details, private messages, sensitive personal information or identifying details without their permission. Do not post threats, harassment, bullying or discriminatory abuse.
Be open about commercial interests
If you work for, own, represent or have received payment or a benefit from a business you mention, disclose that connection in your contribution. Do not post disguised advertising, fake reviews, repetitive promotions or links primarily intended to sell something.
You may suggest a genuinely useful link. Snowfall reviews suggested links separately and decides whether to publish them.
Share material you have the right to use
Write your own contribution. Do not copy another person’s text, photographs or other material unless you have the right to share it. A link to the original source is usually more useful than copying its content.
How moderation works
Snowfall reviews questions, answers, replies and suggested links before publication. We may decline, edit for clarity, or remove a contribution that is inaccurate, outdated, unsafe, promotional, off topic or inconsistent with these guidelines. We may also close a discussion when it is no longer useful.
Publication does not mean Snowfall has independently verified every claim or endorses a contributor’s opinion. Contributions reflect the information and experience available when they were written.
If you find a published answer that appears unsafe, inaccurate, outdated or promotional, use **Report this answer** so we can review it. For other concerns, contact Snowfall through our contact page.
Breaches and enforcement
Snowfall may reject or remove a contribution, restrict someone from contributing, or block them from the community if they breach these guidelines. We do not have to issue a warning first.
We may block someone immediately for threats, harassment, publishing private information, dangerous advice, deliberate misinformation, impersonation, spam or disguised advertising. Repeated breaches may also result in a block.
We may keep a record of reports and moderation decisions so we can manage the community. Where appropriate, we may refer serious threats or potentially unlawful material to the relevant authorities.
