The Treble Cone opening for 2026 will not happen this weekend as originally planned

The ski area had been hoping to open on 27 June 2026, but like other mountains in the South Island, warm conditions are continuing to affect early-season preparations.

Treble Cone stated it has been a warm month, with only limited windows for snowmaking. While the weekend brought precipitation, it arrived as rain rather than snow.

Snowmaking crews have been making snow whenever conditions allow, but Treble Cone said there is still a lot of mountain to cover before opening can go ahead. See the webcam image below.

Cooler temperatures and some natural snow are expected in the coming days, which should allow snowmaking to ramp up again. The team will continue to monitor the forecast and provide further updates as conditions develop.
