Yes, Roundhill 2026 ski season is now open. The Lake Tekapo ski area opened on 1 July 2026, with limited early-season terrain available.
9 July Update – Roundhill transformed after big snowfall
Roundhill is open, with the latest storm dramatically changing the snow conditions on the mountain. Another 13cm of fresh snow has been reported since yesterday, adding to what has already been a strong few days for the Tekapo area. Light snow showers were still passing through this morning, but conditions are expected to improve into the afternoon, with light winds in the forecast. Looking great for the weekend!
T1 and T2 are open, along with the Learners Lifts and Platter. The Heritage Express Rope Tow remains closed.
Roundhill’s access road is now clear of snow, but winter driving conditions remain in place. All 2WD and AWD vehicles with road tyres must fit chains at the chain sign, while 4WD trucks must carry chains suitable for the vehicle.
The Two Thumb Cafe and the Von Brown are also open, making it a good day to head up and enjoy Roundhill after a major shift in conditions.
3 July Update – Snow forecast could give Roundhill a real boost
We don’t normally update just for the weather, but this one is worth watching. MetService is forecasting snow for the Canterbury High Country, and if the cold air and moisture line up, Roundhill could see several days of snow through next week (till Thursday). The weekend weather may be rough at times, with wind and changing conditions,This forecast is worth watching closely, as a decent run of natural snow would make a real difference to coverage across the mountain.
1 July Update – Roundhill Opens for the 2026 Ski Season
Roundhill has opened with the beginners area and T1 to just below Tower 5. More terrain is expected to open as the mountain receives more natural snow and conditions continue to build. This weekend could be a big help.
The ski area is currently open, with the access road also open. Roundhill is reporting a 20cm base, with the latest update published on 1 July 2026.
