This weekend, August 8/9th will see Rainbow open for the first time in 2026
The opening is great news for the community-owned ski area. Rainbow is one of the last ski fields to open this season, mainly due to limited snowfall, and its return will be warmly welcomed by local skiers and snowboarders.
Following a successful snow play opening last weekend, Rainbow plans to open for skiing and snowboarding on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 August, subject to snow, weather, road and operational conditions.
The weekend will mark the first ski operations under Rainbow’s new operating model, introduced to give the club greater flexibility to respond to snowfall and reduce the risks faced by smaller ski fields. It is also a return to the traditional spirit of club skiing, with the mountain shaped and supported by its members, volunteers and local community.
Early-season conditions expected
Rainbow Ski Area has advised visitors to expect marginal snow coverage, particularly at lower elevations, while the mountain continues to build its base. The West Bowl will remain closed for now while the ski area waits for further snowfall.
Despite the early-season conditions, the return of skiing and snowboarding is an encouraging start and gives Rainbow the opportunity to build momentum as more snow arrives.
