Porters Alpine Resort has officially closed for the 2026 winter season.

The Canterbury ski field had been hoping to reopen after fresh snow, but despite receiving 6cm overnight on 17 September, there was not enough cover on the lower slopes to continue operations.

Porters says the mountain is now closed for winter 2026, bringing the season to an end after what it described as some great days on the mountain.

At the time of closing, snow depths were still being reported at between 50cm and 170cm, but the lower mountain conditions ultimately made reopening unworkable.

Porter’s is already looking ahead to next winter, with 2027 season passes going on sale from 30 September.
