The Mt Hutt snowmaking crew took advantage of a brief cold spell this week, along with 8-15cm of natural snowfall, helping to build valuable early-season coverage across the mountain

Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to support an opening this weekend, with the ski area now targeting 27 June for the start of the 2026 season.

While the Mt Hutt snowmaking has continued whenever temperatures have allowed, the next few days are expected to remain marginal for snowmaking, limiting opportunities to continue building the snow base.

The encouraging news for skiers is that forecasts are showing the possibility of colder weather next week, along with hopefully some fresh snow

If those forecasts eventuate, conditions on the mountain could improve quickly, with Mt Hutt aiming to build its snow base to around 30cm. For now, all eyes are on next week’s forecast, which may finally deliver the colder temperatures and snowfall needed to get the 2026 season underway.
