Mt Hutt is open for the 2026 ski season, with the Canterbury ski area starting winter operations after a delayed start to the season.
The opening follows a slow start to winter, with mild conditions through June limiting both natural snow and snowmaking opportunities. Fresh snow and colder temperatures over the past week helped improve coverage enough for the mountain to get underway.
Mt Hutt is operating daily from 9am to 4pm, weather and conditions permitting.
Early-season conditions are still in place, so visitors should check the daily snow report before heading up. Open lifts, trails and terrain may change depending on snow coverage, weather and grooming conditions.
As of opening, Mt Hutt has snow experiences available, including snow sledding and sightseeing options. Skiing and riding terrain is expected to build as more snow arrives and snowmaking continues.
