Skyline Gondola Queenstown

You are lifted high above Lake Wakatipu with sweeping views of the Remarkables mountain range and the surrounding Southern Alps

Few experiences in Queenstown deliver such an immediate sense of scale as the Skyline Gondola. Rising steeply above the town to Bob’s Peak, the gondola offers visitors one of the most accessible alpine viewpoints in New Zealand.

For many travellers, the ride itself becomes one of the highlights of a visit to Queenstown. The cabins climb quickly through native bush before emerging into open views across the lake and the town below.

On a clear day the perspective reveals just how beautiful the landscape around Queenstown really is, arguably one of the best views in New Zealand – we think so anyway!

The Skyline Gondola is located on Brecon Street close to central Queenstown

The base terminal for the gondola sits on Brecon Street, only a short walk from central Queenstown. Visitors can reach it easily from the lakefront or downtown accommodation areas.

The gondola rises to Bob’s Peak, which sits high above Queenstown. From the top station, visitors gain access to several attractions including viewing platforms, restaurants, the Skyline Luge tracks, walking trails and mountain biking routes. Even if you choose not to take part in the activities, the viewing deck alone is worth the trip – you will love it.

The gondola climbs 480 metres above Queenstown

The ride ascends 480 metres vertically to Bob’s Peak. This relatively short journey produces a surprisingly dramatic change in perspective, quickly revealing panoramic views across Lake Wakatipu and the surrounding mountains.

Because of its steep gradient, Skyline Queenstown is often described as one of the steepest cable car rides in the Southern Hemisphere. The climb takes only a few minutes, yet the view expands quickly as the cabins rise above the forest.
